I am in the Ashville (sic), North Carolina airport waiting for a Buddy Holly killer to take me to Charlotte, so I can get to Phila., so I can get to Cape May.
Love, Dad
As I mentioned earlier, "Buddy Holly killer" was a long-standing joke between my dad and I. I had guesstimated that the joke was at least ten years old when he put it on the postcard from 2000, and this one confirms that it was at least nine years old at the time.
I like this postcard because it feels like a relic--remember when Pan Am ruled the skies? My dad was one to also accrue playing cards emblazoned with airline logos--I don't know if he paid for them, or if they were complimentary on flights. But invariably, when I go to grab a deck of cards, it's an old pack from the 70s or 80s and brought to me by Pan Am, or American, or USAir. And then one day I was rummaging through my silverware and pulled out a fork that said "Piedmont Airlines." Seriously? He stole silverware, too?
