33. Brooklyn, New York

Date: June 27, 1978
Age: 13 months

This weekend we went to N.Y. to visit Nonna & Nonno. We took you on your first subway ride and you fell asleep. We also got you some new cloths [sic] in the most expensive store in New York--Bergdorf Goodman.
Love Mom & Dad

This was sent on a blank card, don't know why. My dad's parents, who I called Nonna and Nonno (Italian for grandmother and grandfather), lived in Brooklyn. This was probably just some card stock he found laying around my grandparents' house. It still makes for a good image, though, to show off my dad's handwriting, which is probably the most interesting handwriting I've ever seen. I don't know many (if any) men who write in cursive, let alone be legible--I never had trouble deciphering my dad's notes.

I do wish he had sent me a postcard of a photo from Brooklyn, however--if not with this card, then with a later one, and flipping through the collection, I don't see any. He held a lot of animosity toward Brooklyn for a long time--much of it directed toward his parents, but he also considered it about as appealing as a filthy toilet.

Yes, it is postmarked as from Philadelphia, but the postmark on the front reads Brooklyn. It must have been canceled twice.
